Following recent closure of the main Southlands Hospital inpatients services at the Shoreham-by -Sea site, Crowther Associates Architects have been appointed by the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to put forward a scheme for 106 units, consisting of a mixture of house sizes and apartments, as an outline planning application to guide how the site may be developed and laid out for a future residential development.
The project also includes proposals for the retained Hospital buildings to the east of the site that will include reconfiguration and refurbishment of the existing buildings to create a new state of the art Ophthalmology Department and upgrades to other key existing outpatients services in the building. Designs have also been produced of the external landscaping and parking areas with special care taken to maintain the mature trees and planting in the existing hospital garden areas.
